    Unfortunately, the term "layer" is used in very different ways across various BIM authoring programs:

    In Revit, planes refer to horizontal reference systems relative to the vertical structure of digital building models. Objects such as walls, floors, and columns can be linked to these planes (and offset if necessary), which can make it easier to make changes. 

    ArchiCAD uses the term "level" as a top-level organizational element—in almost all other BIM and CAD applications, levels are referred to by their English name: "layer"
